Iron box compass by Star of Boston. Dry compass card reads “Star Pattened Milton, Mass.”, mounted to a timber box with gimbal. Has fastened foot for display purposes. Lid with latch, has some splitting. Dimensions: 6″ L x 6″ W x 5″ H
Old helmet style brass lifeboat or vachit binnacle with liquid gimbaled compass. Side burner with hinged door and burner but the burner is not functional. The 4 inch compass is in working order the alcohol fill is discolored and gimble is a little stiff. The brass surface may have been polished at one stage by previous owner but its internal surfaces are well aged. Bottom ring measures 8 ¾ inches 223mm in diameter at base and is a similar height.
